A native of northern New Jersey, Ronald Heeren began his own experience with chiropractic care as a teenager. When he was injured at age 15, his mother took him to a chiropractor – and he was amazed at how much better he felt after just one treatment.
As he continued to improve after ongoing care, his allergy problems began to disappear and his overall health improved. That started him on a personal journey – he continued to improve his health through nutrition and exercise, and over time adopted a natural, holistic lifestyle.
When it came time for college, Dr. Heeren did a year at music school and decided it wasn’t for him. His brother, studying chiropractic at the time, encouraged him to look into it. Dr. Heeren graduated in June 1987 from Life Chiropractic College, now Life University School of Chiropractic, in Marietta, Georgia.
After working two years with a personal injury practice in Vineland, Dr. Heeren opened his own office in Lebanon, New Jersey, in July 1990. His credentials include:
Hippocrates, the ancient Greek physician considered to be the father of medicine, said: “Look well to the spine for the cause of disease.” In their quest to improve patient wellness, modern chiropractors like Dr. Heeren do just that.
Chiropractic is based on the belief that good health can be achieved by addressing small misalignments in the spine. Those misalignments, or “subluxations,” disrupt proper functioning of the central nervous system – the spine and peripheral nerves – that channel “innate intelligence” throughout the body. Through years of study, chiropractors have learned how to correct those subluxations with manual “adjustments,” opening the nerve channels and restoring the flow of that “innate intelligence” to restore health. Chiropractic isn’t just back and neck treatment; it’s a whole-body science that enables your body to function better and heal itself. Discover how it can help your pain. Our goal is to correct your spine – its structure and function. We aim to restore the normal balance and function of your nerve supply. When you come to Dr. Heeren’s office, we take the time to do a full analysis, and we manage your care through pre- and post-adjustment scans. The scans monitor improvements in nervous system function, and eliminate guesswork about what the adjustment is doing for you.
When you come into our office with pain in your lower back, we don’t just take an X-ray of your lower back and work on your lower back. Rather, we focus on restoring the structure and function of your whole spine. We focus on the entire spine because many problems in one area can be caused by problems in another area. The spine is a complete connected unit, from the top of the head down to the feet, so the balance of your spine is going to be impacting the function of your nervous system.
Consequently, to improve or maintain your health, we take X-rays of your entire spine and do an infrared scan of the spinal surface (on the skin) that shows the function of the autonomic nervous system. Then we engage in specific adjustments to restore the spinal structure and function, which in turn impacts and restores the proper function of your autonomic nervous system.
The importance of analyzing the autonomic nervous system through spinal infrared scans is that the brain has to have an open channel of communication through the nervous system, connecting the brain to all the organs, glands and muscles of the body. As we correct your spine and the autonomic nervous system improves its function, your body will begin to heal itself and get well.
Dr. Heeren’s special training in Applied Spinal Biomechanical Engineering factors into treatment. With motion X-rays of patients in different postures, we are able to identify the need for ligament rehabilitation. We then teach the patients maneuvers that will stretch the ligaments and correct problems. In the course of care for a patient, Dr. Heeren does a post-analysis of the spine so that when a patient has a structural alteration from normal, we can document that the spine has become structurally corrected. So we know then, as treatment continues, that the patient’s spine is becoming fixed.
There is no guesswork to chiropractic care with X-rays and scans prior to care, and post-X-rays after correction that show what has been accomplished. Dr. Heeren treats adults, children and infants. Note that we do not X-ray children and infants unless severe trauma is involved, but we do make the infrared scans.
